J & J Dowd has been established since 1978 and is based in Worthing, West Sussex. It was started by Joe & Joy Dowd in May 1977, initially purchasing used cars from main dealers and lease companies.

The vehicles were professionally reconditioned and offered for sale at British Car Auctions at Frimley and then at Blackbushe, Joe having initially dealt with British Car Auctions in 1967.

The company quickly established a reputation for selling good quality used cars, this reputation soon spread amongst dealers and retailers across the home counties. As a result of changing markets within the motor trade during the early nineties, Joe & Joy decided to change direction and started to purchase used cars at auction on behalf of private individuals and dealers in the UK. This immediately proved successful and popular, with many buyers requiring the company’s services.

This service has quickly established itself, calling as it does on Joe’s 45 years plus in the motor trade and his 35 years plus, both buying and selling, at car auctions. Top class references are available from both private individuals and trade customers.
